My Uncle Kenny, Kenneth, is one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was a man of many talents. He could cook a meal that brought everyone together, dress with effortless style, make those around him laugh until their sides hurt, and make anyone feel welcome and comfortable in his presence. He could hold his own in conversations about anything—world events, local community news, history, the economy, and so much more. He was a pillar of both his community and his family. He was steadfast in his faith, deeply committed to education, and passionate about empowering others to become the best versions of themselves. One of the qualities I admired most about Uncle Kenny was that he was unapologetically honest about who he was and what he expected from others. He never asked anyone to live by a standard that he wasn't willing to uphold himself. Through his example, he taught me that if you expect excellence from others, you must first hold yourself accountable to those same standards. He taught me to carry myself with dignity, to keep my head held high, and never allow anyone to diminish my worth or talk me out of the person I was created to become. No matter the obstacle, no matter the circumstance, he believed that you should always strive to be better than yesterday. He was a force to be reckoned with—strong in his convictions, unwavering in his principles, and impossible to overlook. More importantly, he was my mother's brother. They shared countless conversations, endless laughter, and moments where he strengthened her faith and reminded her of her own resilience. He was our uncle—the one who would quietly sneak me an extra slice of sweet potato pie, who celebrated our good grades as if they were his own accomplishments, and whose boisterous laugh is a sound I will carry with me for the rest of my life. There will never be another Uncle Kenny. No one could ever replace the space he holds in my heart. I am especially grateful that he had the chance to meet my sons and that they were able to know, even if only for a time, the remarkable man he was. Today, I choose not to dwell only on the pain of his absence. Instead, I choose to rejoice in his life, to celebrate the love he gave so freely, the wisdom he shared so generously, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he loved, and the values he instilled in those of us who had the privilege of learning from him. Rest well, Uncle Kenny. Thank you for showing us what it means to live with faith, integrity, strength, joy, accountability, and purpose. Thank you for teaching us that our character is measured not only by what we ask of others, but by what we demand of ourselves. You will always be loved, and you will never be forgotten. -Your niece Alisha and family
